Oh craig, stop embarrassing me….you’re making me blush.
see you tonight babe.
We finally got a chance to hang out and interrogate the king of the Jetty, Pete LPE Casica. Longboard Public Enemy numbah 1 is his name, and shredding is his game. Having previously worked for Infinity Surboards, Casica has branched off all mainstream brands and all together normalcy….serious though, the guys is straight out of the 30’s….I mean he still uses candle wax on his logs instead of sticky….
Casica has continued with his own company, Noir Fin Co. which produces some of the most interesting boards this side of Cal-i-for-ni-ae. One hundred and fifty percent A-MERI-CAN made. Pete prides himself on double sided boards with fin boxes on both ends in Army Greens and deep wine colors. History buff, and wave connoisseur, Casica has made it his priority to make old-time boards for right now waves.
This is what he had to say about life, love, kids, marriage, gay rights, and politics.
What is your full name?
“Pete Casica AKA Longboard Public Enemy No. 1”
Where do you hale from sir?
“Dana Point, CA”
How long has your bod been housed on this earth?
“24”
Who are your biggest surf influences?
“There are five: My Dad, Trevor Collins, Terry Martin, Henry Ford, and Phil Edwards.”
How long have you been electric wave sliding?
“Twenty-four years of surfing, 10 yrs of making surfboards.”
What’s your favorite hotdog move?
“‘The Reverse Coffin’” (a traditional coffin maneuver done backwards)”
What is your favorite post surf grub?
“Gen Kai in Dana Point”
Tell me about your most embarrassing surf related moment?
“Slipping on ice at Doheny jetty on a cold wiinter morning… Trevor Collins was a witness.
Favorite surf movie ready…GO!
“Point Break hahaha, no just kidding, i dont have one; i dont watch too many surf movies.”
Machado vs Tudor….take your time.
“Neither, they’re both talented surfers but contribute to the mass trend of surfing which is contradictory to what surfing is, an INDIVIDUAL sport !!!”
What’s your favorite surf spot in the world?
“The Boneyard”
The long standing, ever present question, logging vs shortboarding?
“Both are fun depending on the conditions of the waves. I prefer vintage longboards because they are the most challenging to ride.”
In your very professional opinion, who would win a street fight between hitler and kim jong il?
“Well according to my degree in history, hitler was a gay coward and kim was a little man with a big mouth. I’d rather see a fight thats worth seeing.”
Girls who surf….choose your words wisely
“Women belong in the home, hahaha, but anyway, the ocean is for everyone.; Everyone that is willing to be respectful of the ocean and of the elders that were surfing before them.”
Personal rant in 6 sentences:
“As a lifelong surfer and board maker, I must say that I cant stand the major trend of surfing and the mass media. I hate people who see a surf image on tv or the internet and think that they can go grab a board and wetsuit and, boom ! they are suddenly part of the lineup, WRONG ! Surfing is an individual sport that involves learning and respect. One must work their way up in the ranks in terms of experience and proficiency, along with age. Thats what real surfers such as myself were taught and it is a shame today to see that these values are lost in the sport; it’s sickening enough to make me want to quit surfing altogether. But at the same time, i am not willing to let complete strangers and beginners rob me of the same respect that i was forced to give growing up; afterall, there is a reason why i am known as “Longboard Public Enemy No.1”
